While people are quick to complain when things aren’t done well or to their satisfaction, I just wanted to take time to thank you for the excellent care you and your staff provided my father in the two years he was a resident at your facility. lt was very important to me that he was able to spend his last few years in a place that truly felt like a home and not in an institutionalized setting.
Each staff member took time to get to know my dad, his likes and dislikes and used that information to form a friendly and caring relationship with him. Daddy was always happy, clean and well groomed. Just by his appearance you could tell he was well taken care of. The staff members treated him with the utmost respect. Ms. Russell encouraged visitors and provided bible study to those who wanted it once a week. This was wonderful for my father because he loved church and was unable to attend after he lost the ability to walk. At each meal the residents were encouraged to eat together at the dinner table which provided a sense of family. Each meal was balanced and well planned. Someone always sat with my father and fed him at each meal.
It is hard to be an out of town caregiver, however when I visited it was a great experience. The Russell Residence was always clean, comfortable and had a homelike feeling. I was able to plan several birthday celebrations and holiday gatherings at the facility for my father. I was always welcomed by the staff and was briefed on any updates or changes in my father’s care. lf I had any questions or concerns about my father, Ms. Russell was prompt in returning my calls, pleasant to speak to and resolved any concerns I had. I wanted to let you know what and outstanding job you and your staff did going above and beyond to meet the needs of my father and make him comfortable. I appreciate what you do and the services you provided.K.C. Jarvis
My dear Mother was a resident at the Russell Residence in Bowie, MD from May of 2015 until her death last fall, and l, without reservation, highly recommend this facility for the care of a loved one or even you, should you need a home away from home and care beyond that normally provided in your own residence. Not only are 3 nutritious meals provided daily (and snacks as well), but they are customized for individual dietetic needs (soft, pureed or liquid diet) as required. I never recall smelling foul or unpleasant odors. The Russell Residence was the best place for my Mother in her last year and a half. Her final days and months were peaceful and tranquil- Our family was confident that her needs were being attended to by the staff, and she was being well-cared for and treated with kindness and respect.W.W. Here all clients/residents are treated with the same kindness, gentleness and compassion. I have witnessed a staff member taking the time to listen to a client reminisce about his youth upon hearing an old, love song – not rushing him or doing anything else but simply listening and interacting with him. I particularly like that staff view the clients as people who have lived interesting lives and sometimes just want to share those memories with someone.
The owner also shows compassion and concern for the clients. She, also, personally takes the time to work with and train new workers on their first day on the job, even the night-shift employees. She is hands-on, accessible and very involved which is something I have found missing in many facilities. I think her own personal commitment and concern for the welfare of her clients sets the tone for the rest of the staff. lt has been said, “lt begins at the top.” That is why, along with the other points I have touched upon, I unequivocally recommend the Russell Residence.
